Mabel I. Hilton
Mabel I. Hilton, 95, of Kearney died Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kearney. Rev. Chad Anderson will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Litchfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday morning at the church. Memorials are planned to Mt. Carmel Home Angels Way Special Care Unit, Litchfield Christian Church or Trinity Presbyterian Church. Mabel was born Dec. 9, 1916 near St. Edward, Nebraska to George W. and Ella B. (Rosencrantz) Reitz. She moved with her family from St. Edward to a farm seven miles southwest of Litchfield. Her first eight years of schooling were in a rural school six miles south of Litchfield. In the early 30’s due to the depression and drought, Mabel lived with her grandmother in St. Edward so she could attend school. She was a graduate of St. Edward High School in 1934. Following graduation from high school she attended Kearney State College and taught eight years in rural schools around Litchfield, Nebraska.
She married Leonard Hilton July 28, 1940 in Kearney and they farmed in the Litchfield area until bought property in Kearney where they built a house and retired from farming in 1986. After moving to Kearney, Mabel took care of people in their homes and also worked at Wal Mart and Folletts College Bookstore.
She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kearney.
Mabel is survived by two sons; Eugene E. and wife Barbara Hilton of Collins, MO and Keith L. and wife Angela Hilton of Kearney, three grandchildren; Amanda and husband Bo Berry of Lexington , Jesse and wife Ashley Hilton of Kearney and Danie Hilton of Grand Island, step grandson; Blake Prusia of Kearney, great grandchildren; Trystan, Taya, Treyvan and Trinity Berry of Lexington and Paisley Hilton of Kearney.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband-Leonard on April 20, 2005 and one brother.
