Gladys passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday evening Dec. 14 at Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney, Ne. She was two months short of her 100th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Abbie Haddix; two husbands, Delmar C. Edson and Delbert R. Knispel and her 4 brothers.

She is survived by her 6 children, Bonnie Andrikopouloa of Denver, CO; Shirley White of Bullhead City, AZ; Betty Schall of Kansas City, MO; Karen Aubrey of Dallas, TX; Ronnie Edson of Kearney, NE; and Bobby Edson of Elm Creek, NE. 3 step-children, Mike Knispel of Minden, NE; Craig Knispel of Kearney, NE; and Peggy Dobberstein of Edmond, OK; 24 grand-children; 23 great grand-children; and 5 great-great-grand children.

Gladys has a passion for gardening and was known as a great cook and a meticulous housekeeper. She loved all types of animals and always had pet cats and dogs. Her last pet cat, Peaches, preceded Gladys in death about a year ago.

Gladys worked at many jobs during her life, including as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney and as a demonstrator for Wal-Mart until retiring at the age of 90.

Gladys was born on a farm near Mason City, Ne. and lived her entire life in Central Nebraska. Gladys personified every characteristic of the pioneering spirit of the early inhabitants of Central Nebraska and was a sterling example to all who knew her.

The funeral will be held at 10:30am on Dec. 19, 2012 at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with interment following at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday.
