Delano F. "Red" Loseke
March 26, 1933 - August 7, 2010

Delano F. “Red” Loseke, age 77, of Kearney, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with Pastor Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Military Rites provided at the grave by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, Kearney V.F.W Post #759, and Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to the service on Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the visitation. Memorials are planned to the family to designate later.   A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Service of Kearney are in charge of arrangements.
 
Delano was born March 26, 1933 in Columbus, Nebraska to Elmer and Velma (Saalfeld) Loseke. He attended Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran School until the 8th grade. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1951 where he played 3 yrs. of football, track, and basketball, and was a member of FFA for 4 yrs. At the age of 23 Red was the National Double Row Corn Picking Champion in 1956. He was congratulated by Vice President Nixon and Senator Kefauver in front of a crowd of 70,000 people in Columbus. He entered the Army on May 12, 1955 where he was a corporal and served during the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and was honorably discharged in 1961. He moved to Kearney in 1963 where he farmed and later worked construction until retiring from J.J. Westhoff Construction in 1998. Delano married Ellen Paetz on May 16, 1964 in Oklahoma. Red was a member of the Kearney American Legion, V.F.W., and the Eagle’s Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his family, and Husker football.

Delano was preceded in death by his Parents, 2 brothers Merle and Louis, 1 grandson Bobby Anderson, and 1 son-in-law Mark Anderson.
