Virginia Lantz October 31, 1924 - August 31, 2010
Virginia P. Lantz, 85, of Kearney died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Ravenna Good Samaritan Home in Ravenna, NE. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney. Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege following the service. Visitation will be Friday evening at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Virginia was born October 31, 1924 in Kearney to Ross and Neva (Prindle) Browne. She lived north of Kearney until 1938 when Virginia moved into Kearney. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1942. Shortly after graduation she was employed at the Kearney Hub as a secretary for the Publisher and Owner Mr. Ormond P. Hill. She also had charge of the entire courier force, later in the composing room, linotype, type setter, and gave 40 years of service to the Hub. The word that best described Virginia was dedication, never missing a day of work. After retirement from the Hub she was happy working at Ruters Style Shop as she loved showing the latest clothing. She also worked at the Hilltop Vet Clinic.
On December 30, 1951 she married Burl Lantz. To this union were born two children Rodney and Joni. In her social life she enjoyed bowling and golf. She was a member of the B.P.O. Does and held the office as President 3 terms. She was also a member of the Fort Kearney Eagles Auxiliary serving 2 terms as President. She was a faithful member of both organizations many years. Virginia was baptized in the Havens Chapel Methodist Church in her early years and was later a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney.
