Helen A. Carman, 73, of Kearney passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. 

 

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney.  Rev. James DeLoach will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.  Visitation is planned Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.  The Casket will be closed at the church.  Memorials are planned to Zion Lutheran Church or to Good Samaritan Hospital Home Health Care.  Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.  A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.

 

She was born January 10, 1938 in Ravenna to James and Edna (Gray) Mrkvicka.  She grew up in Ravenna.  On March 5, 1954 she married Gerald E. Carman in Julesburg, CO.   The couple lived in Ravenna and she managed the Burlington Café then later owned and operated the Midway Café. 

 

They moved to Kearney in 1974 and she was the director of the Kearney Senior Center from 1977 -1988.  She then worked at Health and Human Services for 2 years until retiring for health reasons. 

 

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, music and crocheting and especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, James; 1 sister-in-law; Lois Mrkvicka; nephew, Jeff Mrkvicka and niece, Rachel Elizabeth Mrkvicka.
