Dorothy LaVern Hill McRorey Nordine July 21, 1931 - January 18, 2012

Dorothy LaVern Hill McRorey Nordine, 80, of Kearney and formerly Cambridge, NE died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney. Rev. Mike Shields will officiate and burial will be at the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be prior to services Saturday at the church. She was born July 21, 1931 in Kilgore, TX to James Henry and Ruthie (Whisenhunt) Hill.
She grew up in California and Oklahoma and attended school at Bay Point School in Port Chicago California and Farmer’s Hill School south of Millerton, Oklahoma. She attended High School in Valliant and Wright City, Oklahoma.
On October 9, 1947, at the age of sixteen, she married Vernon Houston McRorey. They had nine children; Lemuel Lawson, Loelan James, Vema Uvone, Vernon Dennis, Joey DeWayne, Joyce Marie, Arnetta LaVern, Mary Lynn, and William Dale. They had a beautiful life for 23 years. Vernon died of a heart attack in 1970.
On Oct. 2 1972 she married Carl Allen Nordine. They had one son Carl Allen Nordine Jr. The couple traveled with the circus and fairs working in concessions and enjoyed the few short years together. Carl was killed in a truck accident in 1978 after having been married just
51/2 years. In 1983 she married Jack Whitcomb, the marriage ended in divorce in 1989 and she resurmed her previous name of Nordine.
In her younger years LaVern worked in the fields picking and chopping cotton, hoeing corn, and other types of farm work including pitching and tromping cotton behind a cotton stripper. She also flagged for an aerial service. Later in 1962 she went into nursing. As a nurse’s aide she worked at Methodist Hospital and several nursing homes and the state school in Lubbock,Texas. She also worked for Texas Instruments. She moved to Cambridge NE in 1983with husband Jack and son Carl Jr. She worked for Faw's Automotive, Cambridge manor and last but not least drove a school bus for Cambridge schools from 1985 until 2010.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; Vernon McRorey and Carl Nordine and three sons; Loelan, Dennis and William, two stepsons; Beryl and Lonnie McRorey, three sisters; Ora Sylvester, Velma Teague, and Doris Smith, and one brother; David Hill.
Surviving are children; Lemuel McRorey and wife Elizebeth of Morton, TX, Verna and Victor Jordan of Collinsville, TX, Joe McRorey and wife Debbie of Lubbock, TX, Joy Kinsley and husband Don of Carroll, IA, Arneta Pike and husband Steve of Kearney, Mary Ewald and husband Wayne of Illinois, Carl Nordine and wife Tanya of South Dakota, 33 grandchildren, numerous Great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister; Darlene Fisher and husband Gene of Texas, one aunt; Dorothy Otwell and many cousins and friends and very special friends; Julian Aebischer, Bob and Rita Waltameth and Diane Rooks and her son T.J.
